Dear X:
I'm writing to let you know about my commitment to end child maltreatment in (my/our) local community. The county (I/we) live in is ranked among the highest for child maltreatment rates in Oregon, which contributes to Oregon's ranking higher than the national average. Research shows that child maltreatment is preventable! Risk factors and specific strategies to reduce risks are known. We must spread awareness and diligently apply this knowledge to be successful in our efforts.
The Great Rotary Duck Race (GRDR) is an annual community-wide fundraising campaign coordinated by thirteen distinct Rotary Clubs serving Lane County, Oregon. The GRDR is committed to providing financial support to selected community-based child maltreatment prevention/intervention programs. We are the largest collaborative fundraising campaign by Rotarians in the county, the largest raffle in the state of Oregon, and the second largest duck race event in the country. Over the past twenty-three years, the GRDR has sold over a million ducks (raffle tickets) resulting in over $5 million dollars invested in ending child maltreatment.
My personal goal this year is to raise $X. Each $5 raffle ticket represents one rubber duck racing down the Willamette River on October X at Alton Baker Park in Eugene. Our total fundraising goal is $X, which equates to X ducks in this year's race. I appreciate any help you can offer in helping me reach my personal goal.
